Issues faced by older persons in developing countries are largely invisible. Often older persons are not included in development or health systems strengthening efforts. HealthNest Uganda, in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and HelpAge International, aims to make the issues of older persons more visible as part of a global movement to address the health, well-being, and social protection of older persons.
Health Nest does this by engaging the strengths of older persons, intergenerational cooperation, and community action. To support this work, Health Nest is implementing the Health Outcomes Tool designed by HelpAge International with community-based intergenerational interventions to address the health issues that older persons face in Uganda. The Health Outcomes Tool is an instrument that aims to redefine health outcomes in older age, capture longitudinal and cohort changes, and help understand the relationship between these factors and outcomes of interventions.
